“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including Anthony Iannarino, Dave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.
Periodically moving forward, we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions. You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.
This week I’m thrilled to feature Larissa Gschwandtner, VP of sales & marketing for Selling Power. In her role Larissa juggles a highly diverse enterprise of media – including a magazine, Web site, conferences and more.
Suffice it to say, Larissa gets stuff done. Here in her own words is how she does it.
Location: Wynnewood Pennsylvania (Philadelphia area)
Current computers: I use an HP.
Current mobile devices: iPhone 6S. The case is pink. I never thought I’d have a pink case. I shattered my iPhone, my old iPhone two months ago. I had no case on it, like nothing – which is probably the dumbest thing when you have like little kids. I dropped it on a concrete floor and it of course shattered the screen. So, when I got a new one it’s like okay definitely need a case and it was either the rugged ones that are for football players or something and then this other case that they were like this is the second best case and it was neon green or pink so I went with pink.
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? My Outlook calendar, DocuSign, RegOnline, MailChimp. What else do I use? Go to Webinar, I’m a big fan of that. Dropbox, Google Docs, my Google Drive, very attached to that. I really like the news app on my iPhone. I look at it literally six times a day. Which is a lot. The Amazon.com app, I love that thing.
What’s your workspace like? Slightly disorganized and disheveled. I am a desk person. I am pretty traditional that way. I have a good chair. If I need to get up I get up and walk around. I’m not into the mobile walking desks at all. My office is like a mix of like office and like Sophia Play space. I have a little stuffed giraffe next to me right now.
What do you listen to while at work? Nothing. I am a total silence person.
What’s your favorite to-do list manager? My Outlook calendar and tasks.
What is your best time-saving shortcut or life hack? Oh man! I am bad with these! I think it’s just making coffee first thing in the morning. Seriously! Like no matter what I am always making coffee before I go get Sophia. It just has to happen otherwise I don’t make coffee.
What everyday thing are you better at than anybody else? I’m really good at seeing someone’s marketing materials and finding the one typo that they didn’t catch.
What are you currently reading? The iPhone news app and The Daily Skimm. A variety of children’s books! Good night Moon, I Know a Rhino… I feel like I should add that my husband is reading a book called Five Presidents. I just want it noted someone in the house is reading an actual book.
What’s your sleep routine like? Most of the time I sleep by 10:00 and I wake up at 6:15 and I sleep and don’t anyone mess with that.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? From my dad because he knows me so well – “don’t worry about things before they happen.”
Anything I haven’t asked but these questions have inspired? Just to do the best work you possibly can. Be the best person you can be and focus on the things that matter. So those are my parting thoughts.
Fill in the Blank: I’d love to see BLANK answer these questions: Will Brooks, COO of The Brooks Group
