Ideally you manage your sales team and sales reps based on outcomes – closed deals primarily.  But where many sales managers struggle is finding the right balance between trusting their reps to get there, and managing the inputs, activities and milestones required to predictably hit the number month after month.

Some companies track calls and talk time, outbound email volume and other purely tactical elements as a proxy for activity and “work”.  But these metrics alone can tell at best an incomplete story, and at worst drive the wrong results-oriented behavior.

I really like the way is tackling this problem.  They’re applying artificial intelligence to a variety of data inputs to give sales managers a more complete picture of what sales teams and individual reps are doing to make themselves productive and on track to hit their number.
