By Matt Heinz, President of Heinz Marketing

“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including  Anthony IannarinoDave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.

Periodically moving forward, we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions.  You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.

This week I’m excited to feature Scott Edmonds, VP of Sales at Helpshift.  Scott is an advisor and mentor to numerous martech and salestech start-ups, and is the only person I know to also be named Best Dressed Warriors Fan (you can look it up, absolutely true).

Here in his own words is how he gets so much done.

Location: San Francisco, CA

Number of unread emails right now? Work: 15. Personal: 24.

First app checked in the morning? WhatsApp, Slack.

First thing you do when you come into work? Coffee! Then clear out Slack.

What is your email management strategy? Email is my to-do list, along with the calendar. If i’ve marked an email as unread, it has a good chance of being addressed.

Most essential app when traveling? Google Maps.

How do you keep yourself calm and/or focused? Exercise, cooking, less phone time and dog. We rescued a 3 year old Husky named Maverick that needs runs every morning. I play soccer in a few leagues in SF and enjoy cooking at home as many times as week. I make a point to leave the phone in the car when heading out to dinner or walking the dog.

What’s your perspective or approach to work/life balance? Work and life blend together so much. To me the most important thing is to stay healthy, positive and give loved ones the time they need.

Are there any work rituals critical to your success? Ensure it all gets done. Projects that are open and unfinished are incredibly stressful. I make a lot of lists.

What apps/software/tools can¹t you live without? So old fashioned, but I like to talk on the phone. Google Docs is incredible.

What’s your workspace like? Clean. Charging cables, coffee cup, stack of reading, calculator, never-used monitor.

What’s your best time-saving shortcut or lifehack? Motorcycles. San Francisco traffic is bananas, getting into the office in 15 minutes vs 45 at any hour of the day wins.

What are you currently reading? Homo Deus: Yuval Noah Harari, Relae: Christian Puglisi

Last thing you do before leaving work? Clean desk, make a short list of things to get done tomorrow.

Who are some mentors or influencers you wish to thank or acknowledge? Bill Binch, Phil Fernandez, Fergus Gloster, Patrick Donnelly, Maria Pergolino, Linda Crawford, Scott Shane.

Name some supportive people who help make it possible to do what you do best? I mean… Mom & Dad, right?

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Chance favors the prepared mind.

Name a guilty pleasure TV show: I don’t watch a lot of TV but Killing Eve was pretty awesome.

Anything else you want to add? Forza Juve!

Fill in the Blank: I’d love to see _______ answer these questions.   Scott Beechuck
