In the past few months, our team has taken on some big initiatives to improve our website, SEO, and internal processes. Some of these items have turned into mammoth-sized projects, but we are so happy with the progress we’ve made, especially considering the circumstances.


One of the projects we took on was to take better advantage of our chat function, Olark. In the process of creating a new strategy, we learned quite a bit about the tool and its functionality. And nothing says marketing more than re-purposing content and turning that strategy document into a blog post. So here we are!


What is Olark?

Olark is a subscription-based service that allows you to implement live-chat functionality within your website to communicate with leads and customers. In “online” mode, users can click the floating button on your page and talk with you in real-time. From these interactions, you can gather basic information, and answer questions about your product or service, pricing, location, etc. And maybe even convert a lead into a customer! You can also default to “offline” mode when outside of business hours, which will act more like a form.

How much does Olark cost?

The cost of using Olark is broken down into monthly, one year, and two year subscriptions. To start, choose the number of team members or “agents” you want to have access to chat with customers. Next, choose your terms/subscription type. The longer terms you choose, the better the savings you’ll get. Here is the current pricing listed on Olark’s website.

  • Monthly: $19/month per agent (cancel anytime)
  • 1 Year: $15/month per agent (save 21% per year)
  • 2 Year: $12/month per agent (save 37% per year)

Additionally, Olark does offer a free trial, so you can try before you buy. Offer can be found at the top of the homepage of their website.



One of the best parts about Olark is the number of integrations available to connect it with the tools you use everyday. As a small team, we take on live chat as an additional responsibility, rather than having an assigned role or team for the job. Because of this, we really wanted something that would be efficient and easy to use. And while logging onto the online portal works, having those incoming chats meet us where we are is much more helpful. By integrating Olark with our primary communication tool, Slack, we are able to receive chats and respond straight from the app. No logging into the online portal necessary.
