By Matt Heinz, President of Heinz Marketing

“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including  Anthony IannarinoDave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.

Periodically moving forward, we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions.  You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.

This week I’m thrilled to feature Matt Dion, Chief Executive Officer at Mintent Software Corp.

This week I’m excited to feature Matt Dion, CEO of Mintent (formerly Marketing.ai).  Matt is a long-time tech executive managing companies such as Edgacent, Elastic Path, Meridex and more.  Here, in his own words, is how he gets stuff done.

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Current computers: MacBook Air

Current mobile devices: iphone 6s

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Mintent of course.  Also find my phone (I have teenage daughters), Mint, linkedin, uber, tripit, spam filters

What’s your workspace like? Desk in an open floor plan concept,  some might say messy –they just don’t understand my filing system 😉

What’s your best time-saving shortcut or lifehack? Peel bananas from the bottom, like monkeys do. Also I live in a 3 story house, never go up or downstairs without bringing something with you.  Don’t multitask, humans aren’t good at it, even with practice.  Also its not good for you. Stay focused.

What everyday thing are you better at than anybody else? Hmmm, not thinking of things I’m better at than anybody else that’s for sure.  I’m good at connecting with other people.

What’s your favorite to-do list manager? I use an app called priority matrix.  First one I found on app store.   Its pretty good. Syncs fairly well across devices.

What do you listen to while at work? Nothing, I find there are already enough distractions

What are you currently reading? Better Angels of our Nature by Steven Pinker.

What’s your sleep routine like?  I sleep about 5 – 6 hours per night.  I think I sleep very well but my wife would disagree.  She says it is quite disturbing watching me sleep and believes one day I just wont wake up. She keeps bugging me to get checked for sleep apnea.  Maybe I’ll put that on my to do list…

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?  Go get your sleep apnea checked out.  Second would be to live every moment as if its your last, life is short.

Anything else you want to add? It’s a great time to be a human in marketing, lets use our super powers for good not evil.  We cant fix the world but lets leave it a little better than how we found it.

Fill in the Blank: I’d love to see BLANK answer these questions. Zac Galifianakis, Kate McKinnon, God
