“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including Anthony Iannarino, Dave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.
Periodically moving forward we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions. You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.
This week I’m really excited to feature Bubba Page, founder and CEO of QuotaDeck. He might just be the nicest guy in B2B, but he’s also one of the hardest-working, smartest guys I know. Driven but grounded. Brilliant but humble. He’s a serial entrepreneur, a columnist for Inc Magazine, and a family man.
Suffice it to say, he gets a ton done. Here in his own words is how he does it.
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Current computers: MacBook Pro laptop
Current mobile devices: Iphone 6 plus
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Apps: Slack, Audible, Google Maps, Twitter, Duolingo; QuotaDeck, Tools: LinkedIn, Gmail, Bluetooth
What’s your workspace like? Depends on the day. Both my office and home office have:
- Two external monitors in addition to my laptop (3 screens. I use a laptop stand so my screen is the same height as the monitors)
- Wireless keyboard/trackboard
- IKEA furniture near a window for daylight
- Nicer ergonomic (new age) chair
- Sticky notes
- Phone chargers
- I Love to use dumbbells and weights while on the phone or pacing around
- I always have something I play with like Buckyballs or kinetic sand while on the phone or in meetings
- Of course I have a picture of wife and I or wife and kids.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut or lifehack? One time saving shortcut is to listen to books on faster speeds– 1.5 or 2x (and still hopefully retain the info.) I love listening to books. Another timesaver: My blue tooth headset is connected to my computer and cellphone at same time so I can skype or talk on my cell phone and never let my hands of the keyboard. I always use it when on the phone (except when on my motor cycle!). Lastly, having 3 screens makes me 2 times more efficient. I can leverage my time without having to open and close windows to get to my apps and documents.
Another tip: When you meet someone new, go home and add them on LinkedIn. It becomes like your personal MA software.
What everyday thing are you better at than anybody else? Smiling (just kidding). Building my network and being able to juggle and have tons of screens on my desk all covered with different things going on.
What’s your favorite to-do list manager? Strides app—For habits, fitness, vitamins, eating and a lot more. On my laptop screen there’s a beautiful picture which says “What is your focus today”?
What do you listen to while at work? I think I’m going to listen to music at work but don’t. If I were to listen to music at work it would be acoustic guitar or classic rock.
What are you currently reading? I usually listen to non-fiction/business books. I’m currently listening to Contagious.
What’s your sleep routine like? I wish it was better. I’d love to go to bed early and get up early. But realistically I’m up until midnight and wake up between 6:30-7:00.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
- Happy wife, happy life.
- Advice for entrepreneurs: sell, design, build—in that order. It increases your chances of succeeding
- Be healthy: Exercise, be spiritual—whatever that means to you—it’s really key.
- Be a happy person because people like to be around happy people.
