“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including Anthony Iannarino, Dave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.
Periodically moving forward we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions. You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.
This week I’m really excited to feature Jason Jordan, a partner at Vantage Point Performance and author of one of the best sales management books I’ve ever read, Cracking The Sales Management Code. Jason and his team work with companies worldwide to improve their sales performance – including GE, HP, 3M, Google, TIAA-CREF and many more.
Jason has also been published in Forbes, Entrepreneur Magazine and the Harvard Business Review, and is a regular on the sales management speaking circuit. Suffice it to say, Jason gets stuff done. Here in his own words is how he does it.

What’s your workspace like? My workspace is my laptop/mobile phone combo, and it goes wherever I go. ‘What it is like’ depends on ‘where it is located’ at any given moment in time… Airports, hotels, Uber cars, local bars, couches, kids soccer games, etc. It knows no boundaries.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut or lifehack? If you have a choice of things to do, do the thing first that excites you the most. I’ve always thought it was crazy advice to save your favorite tasks until last… Then you wasted tons of time dragging through chores. Follow your energy, and you’ll be insanely productive. I also never untie my shoes… That can save a surprising amount of time.
What everyday thing are you better at than anybody else? I’m not sure… Annoying my wife? Or are all husbands good at that?
What’s your favorite to-do list manager? My Inbox is effectively my to-do list. If it’s not in there, you can find it on my Outlook calendar. If it’s not there, I forgot about it and it won’t happen… Ever.
What do you listen to while at work? CNBC and the ‘ding’ of new e-mails arriving
What are you currently reading? Car and Driver Magazine
What’s your sleep routine like? I wish I had one.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Leave no ass unkissed.
Anything else you want to add? Leave your phone behind every chance you get. Never take it for a walk, to the gym, onto the golf course, into the shower… You’re not as urgently needed as you think you are, and alone time is grossly underappreciated. Clear your mind, and it will work better for you.
