As a majority of companies continue having their employees work from home, sometimes staring at the same walls can get boring. With our environment being more ever-changing than ever, it seems like we are more unsure than ever when it will be safe to return to work in a full capacity. Here are 4 tips that have helped me improve my WFH experience.

  1. Create a “Happy” Workspace

What is a “Happy” Workspace? A happy workspace is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a space you get excited to sit down and work at, and is surrounded with things that make you happy. For example, I always keep flowers on my desk, my favorite water bottle, and my favorite snacks in my desk drawers. In order to stay productive and focused, I like to listen to music while I work so I also keep a speaker going on in the background. Below is my happy workspace:

  1. Mimic your office setup

Sometimes we just miss that feeling of being in our office. I decided to mimic my personal office to what my desk setup was prior to leaving. I enjoyed replicating this into my own work from home setup with a second monitor, external keyboard, and raised laptop. This got me excited to go into my own, personal “office.” It allowed me to get the same feeling I did going to my desk every morning, but in my own space.

  1. Get outside

Sometimes we just need a change of scenery. Working from the yard, the patio, a balcony, getting some fresh air while we work can make a huge impact. According to a recent report, spending just 29 minutes outdoors in nature can result in a 45% increase in productivity; and 63% of the employees reported feeling much better after getting some fresh air. (Worldhealth) Working outside is a refreshing way to refocus ourselves and get ourselves excited to be working from home.

  1. Create a routine that works for you

One of my coworkers started dedicating 5 minute mindful time every morning at 8 AM. During this time, I get up, do yoga, then come back and map out what I need to complete in the day, and schedule it out in my planner. It allows me to center myself, then refocus myself into my work. I’ve felt so much more focused since implementing this little change in my routine. It takes time to figure out what works best for you, but once you do, it’s a game changer. When it comes to working from home, it isn’t the same as getting the chance to go to the office everyday. But, by implementing some small changes, you can transform your experience. I hope that utilizing these tips will enable you to customize and improve how you work from home!
