By Matt Heinz, President of Heinz Marketing
“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including Anthony Iannarino, Dave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.
Periodically moving forward, we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions. You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.
This week I’m honored to feature Charlie Liang, director of marketing for Engagio. Charlie is one of the hardest-working people in B2B marketing, hustling to support fast growth for a start-up while maintaining certifications with Marketo, Google AdWords and Salesforce.com. Charlie has been a Marketo Champion for four years, and has quickly risen through the marketing ranks at companies such as BigPanda, Tintri, Shipwire and more.
Suffice it to say, Charlie gets stuff done. Here in his own words is how he does it.
Current computers: Work: MacBook Air. Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon
Current mobile devices: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Engagio, Salesforce, Marketo, Google Analytics, LinkedIn, Excel, Powerpoint, Google docs, Skitch, Twitter, Slack
What’s your workspace like? Lots of empty coffee cups, a notebook (but no pens), a wireless charger, and a flask.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut or lifehack? Upwork contractors to help research, clean and scrape data!
What everyday thing are you better at than anybody else? I try to work harder than anyone else. I’m typing this up at 12:39am.
What’s your favorite to-do list manager? Good old Apple Notes.
What do you listen to while at work? I actually never listen to music at work. I find that headphones make me unapproachable, so while my music knowledge suffers, hopefully my coworkers benefit…
What are you currently reading? I haven’t read a book since college. It’s really bad. I prefer blog posts, Quora, and research stuff on a whim. Doing > Reading.
What’s your sleep routine like? Usually sleep at 2am. Wake up just before 8am. Lucky to have a 5 minute commute…
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Turn your haters into fans. Big fan of “Hug Your Haters.”
Fill in the Blank: I’d love to see Kristen Malkovich answer these questions.
